30 October, 2023 – Wales has had a record-breaking year with more than 100,000 MCS-certified systems installed since records began in 2008. This is the equivalent of 7.7% of Welsh households in one year alone, surpassing Scotland’s highest uptake of renewables per household.
26 October, 2023 – The Government has refused a request by MPs to show a detailed account of how the recent rollback in policy related to the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and heat pumps will affect the UK’s emissions trajectory.
23 October, 2023 – As a result of the Government increasing the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant from £5,000 to £7,500, heat pumps are now cheaper to install than gas boilers. The Government have also announced a £10 million investment into supporting heat pumps through the Heat Pump Ready programme.

23 October, 2023 – Octopus have recently announced their ‘Octoplus’ scheme where smart meter users are rewarded by exchanging their energy usage for a range of benefits and prizes. This comes after the success of Octopus’ ‘Saving Sessions’ last year where 1.86GWh of electricity was shifted away from peak periods.
12 October, 2023 – The church of England has allocated £30m for emission reduction and energy efficiency projects. The organisation has a site portfolio ranging from churches, cathedrals and schools that need to reach net zero. The Church of England has a 2030 net-zero target.
11 October, 2023 -The Labour Party has announced this week that they plan to double onshore wind, treble solar and quadruple offshore wind. This was announced by Ed Miliband at the Labour Party conference. This is a push for investment in energy production in Britain through the use of renewable energy.
11 October, 2023 – Space Solar based in Oxfordshire has been working on the development of a 2km long solar array which would orbit the Earth. The energy would be beamed back to earth the same way that a mobile phone signal does. All things going well this installation would be operating from 2035.
5 October, 2023 – The UK’s Emissions Trading Scheme will limit the number of carbon allowances for companies, where industries will be required to buy allowance for every unit of carbon emitted, incentivising the growth of renewables. The allowance for industry carbon emissions will decrease annually to reflect progress towards Net Zero by 2050 commitments.
4 October, 2023 – OVO has cut heat pump running costs by 50%, making it cheaper to run than a gas boiler at 15p/kWh. This results in the technology being £500 cheaper to run than a gas boiler. OVO aim to level the playing field between gas boilers and heat pumps, encouraging more installations.
