23 October, 2023 – Octopus have recently announced their ‘Octoplus’ scheme where smart meter users are rewarded by exchanging their energy usage for a range of benefits and prizes. This comes after the success of Octopus’ ‘Saving Sessions’ last year where 1.86GWh of electricity was shifted away from peak periods.

11 October, 2023 -The Labour Party has announced this week that they plan to double onshore wind, treble solar and quadruple offshore wind. This was announced by Ed Miliband at the Labour Party conference. This is a push for investment in energy production in Britain through the use of renewable energy.

5 October, 2023 – The UK’s Emissions Trading Scheme will limit the number of carbon allowances for companies, where industries will be required to buy allowance for every unit of carbon emitted, incentivising the growth of renewables. The allowance for industry carbon emissions will decrease annually to reflect progress towards Net Zero by 2050 commitments.

4 October, 2023 – OVO has cut heat pump running costs by 50%, making it cheaper to run than a gas boiler at 15p/kWh. This results in the technology being £500 cheaper to run than a gas boiler. OVO aim to level the playing field between gas boilers and heat pumps, encouraging more installations.
