14 June, On the 14th June the government is ending the plus-in car grant, switching its focus on developing EV infrastructure. This grant initially helped kickstart the rising sales in EV with £1’500 being contributed towards vehicles under 32’000. The Government have ended the scheme as it had less effect on demand.
14 June, A report into emission production of 115 companies between 2015 and 2019 concludes have overestimated their overall reduction in Scope 2 emission. This comes with the purchasing of RECs certificates which have been found to allow businesses to claim they are using more renewable energy than they are.
9 June, 2022- A total of £806 million has been added to energy bills in the UK to assist with turning off wind power during the past two years. The electricity went to waste due to constraints in the transmission system and there being a limited storage capacity.
9 June, 2022 – A greenhouse in Kent that grows strawberries is part of a new trial project to test transparent solar PV panels. The solar PV panels have been installed on the sides of the greenhouse in a bid to help increase the UK’s solar installation without taking up additional land.
9 June, 2022 – Outdated wind turbines from Windy Standard Wind Farm in Dumfries and Galloway will be recycled to be part of playparks, bus shelters and bike racks. A total of 36 wind turbines that are being removed from the wind farm will be used as part of this project.
8 June, 2022 – The IEA has highlighted the importance of energy efficiency in its latest report ‘The Value of Urgent Action on Energy Efficiency’. The report mentions that energy-efficient improvements could reduce energy consumption by 95EJ within the next decade. The report also mentions the importance of electrifying heat and transport.
26 May, 2022 – A windfall tax on oil and gas firms will fund a new government scheme to cut hundreds off the price of bills for households within the UK. This announcement comes after Ofgem predicted that energy bills within the UK were set to rise a further £800 by October 2022.
