21 October, 2022 – British Gas, UK’s largest energy supplier, aims to crack down on emissions by offering heat pump installations for £4,999 to incentivise customers to switch to green energy. Over 1,500 heat pumps have been installed nationwide with the aim to install 1,200 more within the next year.
20 October, 2022 – The National Grid is aiming to take pressure of its demand by offering domestic properties £3 per kWh to use power outside of peak times. The measure is part of an effort to prevent the likelihood of power outages throughout winter.
20 October, 2022 – SSE partnered with Allstar aiming to implement home charging for the firm’s EV owners in hope of supporting their employees amidst the energy crisis. SSE believes this partnership with Allstar will incentivise transport decarbonisation amongst its UK workforce by offering to cover home charging costs.
20 October, 2022 – The Tory government is overturning the ban on fracking, implemented by environmentalists in 2019. Last month, the UK government ended the fracking ban in England in an attempt to mitigate rising energy costs, breaking their 2019 manifesto promise. Tory MPs have been ordered to support the policy or face expulsion.
19 October, 2022 – Based on surveys from NatWest’s sustainable business tracker over half of SME’s and 8 in 10 large firms in the UK plan to propose energy efficiency training for staff. The tracker encourages sustainability-related training to staff as UK energy prices are likely to remain high.
17 October, 2022 – A revision of the mini-budget has been issued as Jeremy Hunt steps in as the new chancellor. Part of this revision has surrounded the Energy Price Guarantee, initially stated to last two years but will now only run until April. The chancellor also stated the new approach will incorporate energy efficiency.
14 October, 2022 – The largest wind generation was recorded at 17.6GW in the UK on the 5th of October. However, only 14.1GW was able to be used due to transmission constraints. This resulted in wind power contributing to 71% of the UK’s energy during this week.
12 October, 2022 – Due to the energy crisis and the growing demand, many solar panel firms in Scotland are being overwhelmed with interest. One company shared that they were seeing enquires for solar panels triple, and as a result are now taking on extra staff to be able to meet the demands from customers.
10 October, 2022 – EQUANS has delivered one of the biggest EV charging installation projects at the NatWest carpark in Edinburgh. The installation includes 264 electrical sockets using 7.4 KW Alfen dual socket chargers and is powered by EQUANS GeniePoint platform.
29 September, 2022 – £1.5bn worth of funding has been pledged by the UK government for energy efficiency measures relating to local authorities and social housing providers. The aim is to reach 130,000 properties with the funding and is accessible via two existing ‘Help to Heat’ schemes.
