19 April, 2023 – Two wind farms in Shetland have been purchased by renewable energy generator Statkraft. It is estimated that once built, these wind farms will produce 120MW of power, further contributing to Scotland’s goal of producing another 12GW of onshore wind energy by 2030.

19 April, 2023 – Think tank Ember has predicted that almost all growth of the electricity demand globally in 2023 will be from green resources. In 2022, 12% of the total proportion of global electricity consumption was from renewables and it is predicted that low-carbon energy technologies will grow by a record 773TWh in 2023.

19 April, 2023 – PwC has reported that more than half of the world’s GDP, which equates to $53 trillion, is dependent on natural resources. This is up from $44 trillion in 2020. This means an increased value of revenues and profits are at risk from nature loss and degradation.

Sandford Parks Lido applies for solar power to fight closure

12 April, 2023 – Management at the historic Lido at Sandford Park, Cheltenham, has applied for solar panels on this grade II listed infrastructure. The instalment would help save around £5,000 a year and if the  panels are not given planning permission the facility would struggle to stay open.

12 April, 2023 – The National Grid ESO has confirmed that during March 2023 47% of the UK’s electricity was generated from renewable energy sources. There were also 213 consecutive hours of energy generation that relied on no coal being supplied to the grid.

Germany’s nuclear power plant era comes to an end

11 April, 2023 – Germany has announced its plans to permanently close three operational nuclear power plants, signaling the end of nuclear energy in the country. The move comes as a result of the country’s ambition to reduce its reliance on nuclear power and transition towards renewable energy.
