National Grid to accelerate connection for 10GW of battery storage

6 November, 2023 – National Grid sets to accelerate up to 10GW of battery energy storage connections in England and Wales offering a connection date that is 4 years earlier than agreed. This is part of the National Grid’s new approach of removing the need for non-essential engineering works prior to connection.

UK homes heated by data centre waste heat

3 November, 2023 – Five projects have received £65 million in government funding which will see thousands of homes benefit from waste heat from computer data centres. This initiative is part of the Green Heat Network Fund and includes projects in London, Watford, Suffolk and Lancaster.

Construction of UK’s ‘largest’ consumer-owned wind farm begins

2 November, 2023 – Ripple Energy’s 18.8MW consumer-owned wind farm has started construction with 4 of the 8 now assembled. Located in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire in Scotland, this is the organisation’s second co-owned wind power project, and allows its owners to receive discounted energy in accordance to the size of their share in the renewable site.

Octopus introduces rewards scheme for smart meter users

23 October, 2023 – Octopus have recently announced their ‘Octoplus’ scheme where smart meter users are rewarded by exchanging their energy usage for a range of benefits and prizes. This comes after the success of Octopus’ ‘Saving Sessions’ last year where 1.86GWh of electricity was shifted away from peak periods.
